2021-22 Nationals

3rd Jan 2022 to 8th Jan 2022

Victor Harbor YC, South Australia

After some negotiation with several sailing clubs, MCASA is pleased to announce they have won the support of Victor Harbor Yacht Club to host the 2021-22 Mosquito Catamaran Nationals. The club has demonstrated very keen enthusiasm to support our fleet understanding the challenges that have been experienced by many organising bodies over the past year. Interest has also been expressed by the Yvone Catamaran class to utilise the club's facilities and sailing waters at the same time. This shared situation has been gratefully accepted by the VHYC as they are known to have a good fleet of Yvonnes that, on their own, would not conduct a national title.

After consultation with VHYC, the Notice of Race has been finalised and can been found here. Please note from the NoR, Registration and Measuring day is the 3rd. A welcome evening (BBQ?) is being planned, possibly at the close of registration and measuring. Presentation evening is programmed for the 8th, following the final day's sailing. This will be at the club also. As mentioned in the Port Elliot camping document (see below), boats can be safely left fully rigged on the VHYC lawns, having easy and direct access to the beach. See a photo here.

Accommodation: Victor Harbor is a popular holiday destination during the year and particularly over the Christmas/New Year holiday period. With that situation in mind, the Port Elliot Showgrounds has been approached and they have agreed to 'block out' a large space for those who wish to access camping options during the week, both powered and non-powered sites. Details of this camping option can be found in a seperate document here. Accommodation in Victor Harbor and its precincts can be accessed via the usual processes. Start here?

As further details are finalised they will be posted here and with announcements on the Mosquito - the racing catamaran Facebook page. MCASA invites all sailors of the Mosquito Catamaran to partake in these nationals, keeping smart and healthy over the winter months to ensure the event will be a success for all particpants and their families. VHYC will make you all feel most welcome to its historical seaside town at the southern tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

Hi all Mosquito sailors

Despite the best intentions of the VMCA committee to provide an event for Mosquito sailors at Portarlington in the coming week, with the current and developing Covid situation in Victoria the VMCA committee feels that it may be seen as irresponsible to be encouraging Mosquito sailors to travel at this time. So the "2020 is over Regatta" has suffered the same fate as the 2020/21 National Titles and has been cancelled. Those who have paid their entry fee (thank you) will be refunded once we have your banking details (please send your BSB/ACC to Tim).

For any Mosquito sailors that would still like to go sailing at Portarlington in the coming week, Portarlington Sailing Club has kindly offered to make their club available for rigging Mosquitoes and overnight mast up storage inside their fenced compound. Please contact me if you would like to take PSC up on this generous offer and I can put you in touch with the PSC Commodore.

Planning is under way for the VIC State Titles over the long weekend in March, and information will be posted on the website and Facebook and sent out as it is confirmed.

Coming up before the State Titles there are also regattas at McCrae YC (23 Jan to 26 Jan) and Chelsea YC (6 Feb). Keep an eye on the calendar.
